Lynne BrindleyLynne Brindley
CEO, British Library

Lynne Brindley has been the Chief Executive of The British Library since 2000. Since her appointment, Lynne has led a major strategic repositioning and modernisation programme to ensure that the BL continues to provide relevant services to users in the 21 st century, and that the library is recognised for its contribution to research, innovation and culture. Lynne came to the BL from the University of Leeds where she was Pro-Vice-Chancellor and University Librarian. She previously held positions as Librarian & Director of Information Services at the London School of Economics, Principal Consultant at KPMG, and Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Director of Information Services at Aston University. She spent the early part of her career at the British Library. Lynne is also active in national and international bodies concerned with cultural, library and digital information strategy. Her research and professional interests are in knowledge management and digital preservation.

Arnoud de Kemp, an accomplished publisher, worked as Director for Springer publishers Berlin/Heidelberg/New York starting in 1984. Until 2004, he was responsible for global marketing, book and journal sales as well as new media development and utilization. He became Partner of digilibri® digital asset agency and publishing house in 2004. For several years now, Arnoud de Kemp has been involved as an honorary member in various activities of the German Association of Publishers and Booksellers (Börsenverein), both as a member of the publishing committee and as a speaker of the Electronic Publishing Working Group.


Peter HendriksPeter Hendriks

Peter began his professional career when he joined Wolters Kluwer in Amsterdam as a management trainee in 1988. After his two-year traineeship, he joined Wolters Kluwer's corporate finance departments, where he spent one year before being transferred into the company's professional publishing department where he was a publisher and business unit director from 1992 to 1999. In 2000, Peter moved to New York and became vice president of Kluwer Academic Publishing (KAP), Wolters Kluwer's scientific, technical and medical publishing division. In 2002, he became CEO and President of KAP. In 2004, following the merger with Springer Verlag, he became President, Global Sales and Marketing of Springer Science+Business Media, and in 2007 Peter became President, Global STM Publishing. Peter has an MA in Business and Economics from the University of Groningen (Netherlands). He is married and has 3 children. His interests include music and sports.

John (Jack) J. Lynch, Jr. is Executive Board Member of Wolters Kluwer. In his role as Executive Board Member, Mr. Lynch is responsible for global shared services, technology, business development, and the transport services business. Before his appointment as member of the Executive Board by the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders on April 20, 2007, Mr. Lynch was Senior Vice President, Business Development since June 2006. In this role, he was responsible for the identification and investigation of cross-divisional business opportunities, focusing on leveraging existing products and business models, with particular emphasis on software and web-based enterprise applications and workflow tools. Before joining Wolters Kluwer in 2006, Jack Lynch was president and CEO of the Pearson School Technology Group within the Pearson Education School Companies, Phoenix, Arizona. In this role, he oversaw technology-focused businesses, including Pearson School Systems and Family Education Network, as well as central software development, business development, and strategic initiatives.

Bartels is an information specialist with over 40 years of global business experience (operations, planning, M&A, divestitures, market & key account development); of which 35 years were in business-to-business, direct marketing and business information services environments. He pioneered new information concepts, new business models and set up businesses in emerging markets with continually changing political and economic environments. Bartels held line and staff management positions at the Dun & Bradstreet Corporation (D&B) in the USA and Europe. As senior vice president, Bartels managed D&B's business development program that spanned the globe with a particular emphasis on China, Eastern Europe, India and South East Asia. Bartels debates on a regular basis with political and industry leaders around the world about the role of information content in national economies and business decisions. He is a regular participant in information and credit management forums working on issues concerned with the value of information in trade credit decisions.

Dr. Willi Bredemeier is the Editor and owner of Password, the German newsletter for electronic information services which he founded in 1986. He also consults in the fields of market strategy and external communications for leading information suppliers on the German market and the EU-commission.. In 1994 he founded the Institute for Information Economics which conducts studies about market development, situation of the information professionals, information quality, information society and methodological problems Dr. Bredemeier has a PhD in Economic Policy (about the German System of Collective Bargaining) at the University of Bremen.


Frank BilottoFrank Bilotto

Mr. Bilotto has an extensive background in the Internet, content and search marketplaces, and brings his sales, legal and content licensing expertise to the company. He came to MuseGlobal from Vivisimo where he introduced that company's clustering technology to online and Internet publishers and aggregators, as well as developed key relationships with library marketplace notables. Trained as a lawyer, Mr. Bilotto started his career as legal counsel to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He then moved on to Thomson Dialog, as the senior director for content licensing, managing the intellectual property news and business information segments. Prior to joining Vivisimo, Bilotto was VP, business and legal affairs for Zoom Culture, a television production company specializing in reality TV. Mr. Bilotto is a frequent speaker at technology and e-content conferences. He currently serves as Secretary on the Executive Committee of ASIDIC. He is also an active member of the Software and Information Industry Association, and is on the steering committee for forthcoming conferences. Mr. Bilotto has a JD degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

Lou Celi is Publishing Director and Senior Vice President of the Economist Intelligence Unit, with responsibility for the worldwide commercial activities of the Economist Intelligence Unit. Prior to this current position, he was the Managing Director of EIU Electronic division, where he played a vital role in transforming the Economist Intelligence Unit into a successful e-business. A former journalist with a Masters in Arts from City College, Mr Celi has written books and research reports on electronic commerce, international trade and global finance and management.

Ed Colleran serves as the Senior Director of Rightsholder Relations at Copyright Clearance Center (CCC), the world's premier provider of copyright licensing and compliance solutions. He oversees strategic initiatives focused on CCC's publisher constituency and manages the development of content licensing solutions and new revenue-generating initiatives for CCC's participating publishers. Ed also provides the vision for the advancement of CCC's digital rights management services and is a key contributor on other long-term strategic issues facing the information industry. An industry veteran, Ed is a two-term member of the board of the Software and Information Industry Association (SIIA). Ed is also a member of the Society of Scholarly Publishers (SSP) board and has served on SSP's Education Committee for more than five years. He is a featured speaker and editorial contributor on issues such as navigating copyright requirements and the challenges and opportunities of managing content in a digital environment. A regular speaker at industry events, Ed has recently presented at the annual conferences of SSP, Association of American Publishers (AAP) and SIIA as well as London Online.


Frank DanielsFrank Daniels

Frank Daniels joined VitalSource, a software and services company providing solutions into the education market, as President and CEO in January, 2001. Frank joined VitalSource after the sale of Total Sports, inc., an internet sports services company with clients like the NCAA, Major League Baseball and 100 colleges and universities. Frank began his career in newspapers working as a reporter and editor at The St. Joseph (Mo.) News-Press and The Ledger-Star in Norfolk, VA. He then joined The News and Observer Publishing Company, Raleigh, NC, and worked in a number of jobs on both the business and news sides of the company eventually becoming executive editor in 1990. He left the N&O after its sale to McClatchy Newspapers to run the Nando.net new media division (which he started at the N&O.) Frank has taught at Duke University and Peace College. He has served on numerous civic, industry and corporate boards and was the first president of the New Media Federation of the NAA. He is a graduate of Duke University.

Joergen Danielsen studied Mathematics and Physics at the University of Kiel, Germany. In 1983, he founded his own translation company that quickly grew to become one of the biggest players in Germany serving customers like Microsoft, SAP, Siemens, Volkswagen, etc. In 1988, his company bought their first Machine Translation system. The growing experience gained in the field of MT led to the close cooperation with SAP in the creation of an MT-based rapid-turnaround solution. In the early nineties he used his expertise to help IBM launch their Translation Memory system, Translation Manager/2. In 1998, Joergen sold his company to INTL.com . He became President of the Enterprise Solutions business group and was thus in charge of ERP and CRM clients worldwide.

He successfully supported the transformation of juris GmbH from a legal database to the leading legal online publisher in Germany. He introduced a new benchmark setting search interface that replaced the old host based system. Jörn Erbguth has an extensive background in legal online publishing. He holds a degree in computer science and law and served as a product manager at Gauss Interprise – now an Opentext Company.


Paul EvansPaul Evans
Senior Vice President, International Publishing Development, Elsevier

Paul Evans is Senior Vice President - International Publishing Development for Elsevier based out of the company's headquarters in Amsterdam. Previously he operated this role mainly from the UK and whichever aeroplane he happened to be waiting for. And before that he developed the company's science and technology publishing support operations in China helping set up the Beijing office which now has more than 40 people for Elsevier in place. Before that he headed up materials science and engineering publishing within Elsevier. He has worked in publishing (management, editorial, marketing and IT roles) for more than 20 years mostly with operating companies of Reed Elsevier. However for two years he went to Scotland and established courses in Aberdeen for Robert Gordon University's publishing studies programmes at undergraduate and Masters levels. This was a real joy but when you teach electronic publishing it is best to have real experience in it so he came back to Elsevier in 1996 to join the new era and has not looked back since. Paul has too many degrees including one from Oxford University in English, a science degree (BSc) from the Open University and a PhD in strategic management of electronic publishing from Nyenrode Universiteit, the Netherlands School of Business. He likes Jazz and keeps meaning to start playing again (double bass) before his fingers seize up for good.

Matt Hong is Vice President and General Manager of Open Web Markets at Thomson Gale, the reference business of Thomson Learning. In this role, Matt is responsible for setting strategy and overseeing operations for Thomson Gale's growing portfolio of consumer Internet properties, including Goliath, AccessMyLibrary, and WiseTo. Additionally Matt oversees the management and growth of the company's network of strategic licensing partnerships. Randall Marcinko is the CEO of MEI (Marcinko Enterprises, Inc.), a California-based information consultancy that he founded in 1996. MEI assists publishers with the monetization of their electronic content, providing professional services in support of content licensing, sales, distribution, creation and indexing. Skilled negotiators design and establish content licensing strategy and execute deals on behalf of primary and secondary publishers with aggregators, syndicators, redistributors and specialty vendors within the information industry. Marcinko joined Nstein Technologies Inc. as its President and Chief Operating Officer in January 2002 and in January 2004 he became its President Emeritus. Nstein develops and markets innovative content management software solutions based on linguistic artificial intelligence. Randy s a founding partner of Digital Learning Space, a company that educates publishers and endusers about digital technology and of Culinarius, a web-based company involved with the provision of food-related information.

Duncan is Director of the International Online division of The Thomson Corporation's Legal and Regulatory International group. The Thomson Corporation, with 2005 revenues of $8.5 billion, is a global leader in providing integrated information solutions to business and professional customers. In 1997 Duncan held responsibility for the international product line of Thomson's leading legal online service, Westlaw. In 1998 he was transferred to London to lead content development for Westlaw's first non-US product extension--Westlaw UK. Later, as Director of Online Development he worked on company acquisitions and Westlaw development projects in Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Canada and Australia. He is now responsible for leading Westlaw's chief international product extension, Westlaw International, and for the partnered development of new work-flow products for the cross-border M&A practices of global law firms. Recent work includes the implementation of global account management programs targeted at the unique challenges of the world's largest law firms and corporations.


Greg MerkleGreg Merkle

As Vice President and Creative Director at Dow Jones, Greg Merkle is responsible for overseeing the user experience design of the Content Technology Solutions within the Dow Jones Enterprise Media Group. With more than 20 years experience in the electronic publishing and information industry, Mr. Merkle Greg has both the big picture vision of where and how information is being used as well as the implementation expertise to bring goal and task oriented products and solutions to market. Previously, he was Associate Vice President, Product Design at Factiva and was responsible for user experience design for all products and services of Factiva. This included working strategically with the Factiva product organization and customers to prototype business ideas and build innovative products and solutions to meet their needs. During the past 17 years, Todd has worked closely with B2B premium content providers and search technology. Prior to joining FAST, Todd served as VP of Product Marketing & Management at NextPage and previous to this he held senior management positions at Open Market, Reed Elsevier, and Folio Corporation.

Erik Mikisch, Vice President - Business Development, Thomas Industrial Network, Inc., a division of Thomas Publishing Co. Ltd. In addition, Mikisch manages ThomasNet's CAD publishing solutions and develops partnerships with technology companies. Mikisch joined Thomas in 2001, as Vice President of Business Development, Thomas Integrated Marketing Group, Inc. He was appointed Vice President of Business Development for ThomasNet in 2003. ThomasNet helps industrial sellers reach the most qualified industrial buyers online and convert them into customers, helping create websites that incorporate online catalogs, CAD drawings and e-commerce capabilities. Robin Neidorf is the General Manager of Free Pint Limited. The company publishes web sites and publications for the global business information industry, and serves a worldwide audience of over 100,000 information practitioners who find, use, manage and share work-related information. Robin took on the role of General Manager in 2006 and is responsible for all aspects of product development and marketing, advertiser and sponsor relationships, goal setting and measurement, and realizing shareholder ROI. In the early years of web adoption, Robin worked as a consultant with companies to align their digital projects with business objectives and craft user-oriented messages and content.


Kate Noerr
Chief Executive Officer, MuseGlobal, Inc.

Ms. Noerr has extensive experience in the library automation marketplace, as well as broad business experience in bringing new technology products to market. Ms. Noerr has spent more than 25 years in the information industry. She has taught in the library schools of the University of Maryland and University of California Los Angeles and spent several years running a European information network prior to co-founding the library automation company, IME Ltd, in 1980. Based in London, IME Ltd. was highly successful, with offices throughout Europe, in Boston and in Singapore. Ms. Noerr was CEO of IME for 16 years and was responsible for its successful global expansion. After the sale of IME to the Dawsons Group in 1996, Ms. Noerr spent some time as a consultant and is now CEO of MuseGlobal, Inc.

Ben Sargent as a senior analyst with research and consulting firm Common Sense Advisory. He is responsible for leading business globalization, localization, and translation research initiatives as well as consulting on globalization assessment projects. Prior to joining Common Sense Advisory, Sargent held positions at Lionbridge, Transclick, and iXL. He was also a member of the marketing team at International Communications where he was the founder and managing director of the Webstream & Interactive division. Throughout his career, Ben has worked for firms providing language services, developing computer-assisted translation technology, and creating global websites for large multinationals.

Vincent SmythVincent Smyth

Vincent Smyth is the EMEA Regional Vice President for Macrovision's business with the Information Publisher and the ISV community. With 20 years experience in the EMEA software market, Smyth is responsible for leading Macrovision's efforts in helping Information Publishers and ISVs customers increase revenue. Prior to joining Macrovision Smyth held sales management responsibilities for Business Objects, PTC and Computer Associates. During the last ten years Smyth has been responsible for increasing revenue and improving customer satisfaction across strategic accounts, system integrators, channel partners, and SME markets.

Wasch's involvement in SIIA is based on both personal and professional interests. His long-standing interest in computers and software, coupled with the industry's need for a central trade association, led him to establish the Software Publishers Association (SPA) in 1984 with an initial group of 25 software firms. Wasch has led the association from its infancy to its merger with the Information Industry Association in January 1999, resulting in the formation of SIIA.


Jenny ZhanJenny Zhan

Born and raised in China, Jenny worked as an electrical engineer in China, a librarian in the United States, a manager and consultant in Switzerland. She was the COO of oanda.com from 1997 to 2000, then she started her own consulting practice and provides business research services. Most recently, Jenny is now a contributing editor for cross culture communications and China specific topics for VIP and LiveWire, a service of Free Pint Ltd. Jenny has been engaged in various technology start-ups and working with teams in cross cultural environments. She holds a Master's degree in Engineering Management from Northwestern University and a MLS (Library & Information Science) from Dominican University in the United States, as well as a BS in electrical engineering.
